Juventus Set to Choose Between Retegui and Jonathan David in €80M Summer Plan

Juventus is preparing for a significant summer overhaul under newly appointed director general Damien Comolli. At the club’s Continassa headquarters, Comolli has wasted no time reviewing financials, player dossiers, and meeting stakeholders to outline his vision for the next chapter in the Bianconeri’s history.

The club expects to have a transfer budget between €70 and €80 million, significantly lower than last summer’s €200M war chest. That previous market window brought in 13 new signings, but failed to produce notable improvement in results—Juve dropped from 3rd to 4th place with fewer points despite the heavy investment.

Champions League Revenue Bolsters Budget

Despite a disappointing Champions League exit in the playoff stage, Juventus still earned €63M from the campaign. Combined with an estimated €67.5M from Serie A placements, rankings, and viewership metrics, the club will bring in roughly €130M in revenue—providing much-needed financial breathing room.

Most of the income will be used for installments and buyouts (Kalulu, Koopmeiners, Nico González, and others), but the remaining funds will allow Comolli to avoid selling top stars unless a substantial offer arrives. Any significant sale could boost Juve’s purchasing power further.

Tudor’s Tactical Shift and Transfer Wishlist

Head coach Igor Tudor is expected to remain at the helm and has outlined a clear vision: two wingbacks, a central defender, and a new striker. The Croatian prefers a 3-4-2-1 formation, moving away from the 4-2-3-1 system favored by predecessor Thiago Motta.

With Dusan Vlahovic likely to be sold after the Club World Cup, Juventus is evaluating two prime candidates: Jonathan David and Mateo Retegui. David, who could arrive on a free transfer, would command a signing bonus of at least €20M. Retegui, currently with Atalanta, could cost around €40M—negotiations will be required to lower that price.

On the flanks, Tudor has requested Dodo for the right side and Gutierrez for the left. In defense, with David Hancko expected to join Al-Nassr, Juventus has shifted its attention to Leonardo Balerdi from Marseille. Young defender Diego Coppola, fresh off his Italy debut, is also being closely monitored—alongside highly rated 18-year-old Giovanni Leoni.
