  • Met Comolli at a UEFA event before they knew they’d work together
  • A full Juventus work structure will be ready in autumn
  • Recalls the pain of the post-Calciopoli years, especially the Delneri era

Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus legend and now Head of International Relations at the club, spoke to Tuttosport about Damien Comolli’s arrival and the evolution of Juventus in recent months. The former defender made it clear that the French executive brings more than just analytics to the table.

“The idea that Comolli is just a ‘data guy’ is a distorted image,” said Chiellini. “Yes, he values numbers and believes in analytics, but that doesn’t mean he lacks human connection or presence. Many of us, myself included, still don’t know him that well, but he is not someone driven by data alone.”

Chiellini revealed that he first met Comolli in March at a UEFA meeting. “We sat next to each other at dinner and talked a lot, without knowing we’d end up working together. We laughed about it when he arrived in Turin. He’s easy to work with, and we’re building a structure that should be complete by autumn. Everyone is putting in the work. Time will tell if we succeed, but the will to create a new winning cycle is definitely there.”

Later in the interview, Chiellini reflected on his toughest years at the club, especially in the aftermath of Calciopoli. “The darkest moment? The second seventh-place finish, the season with Delneri. A single bad season can happen, but back-to-back setbacks after some hope of recovery were hard to take. It felt terrible, and I took it personally.”
