Como 1907 vs Sassuolo Prediction: Serie A Matchday 8

Como 1907 2-1 Sassuolo: a tight home defence against a side without a win on its last three away trips should give Como the points.

Como 1907 vs Sassuolo Prediction: Serie A Matchday 8

Our prediction

We expect Como 1907 2-1 Sassuolo. The biggest reason is the venue: Como are unbeaten in their three most recent home games, while Sassuolo have not won on any of their last three away trips and have conceded eight goals in them.

Form guide

Como 1907 sit 8th with 11 points from six games, a game fewer than most of the sides around them. Their defensive record is the standout number: six goals conceded in six league matches. At home they have been convincing. They beat RB Leipzig 4-1 in the Champions League, edged Parma 2-1 in the league and then held Roma to a goalless draw. The weaker side of their form is on the road, where they lost Frosinone 2-0 Como 1907 in the league and Feyenoord 3-2 Como 1907 in Europe. The pattern is clear: Como are a far more reliable side in front of their own crowd.

Sassuolo are 11th with 8 points from seven games, and their goal difference tells the story: 12 scored, 14 conceded. They can trouble anyone at home, as Sassuolo 3-2 Juventus and Sassuolo 1-1 Milan show. Away from home it has been a different team. Bologna 2-2 Sassuolo was a respectable point, but Monza 2-1 Sassuolo and Frosinone 4-2 Sassuolo followed, and their most recent outing was that heavy defeat. They have scored in all five of their listed games, but they have also conceded in every one of them, eleven goals in total.

Head-to-head

The two recent meetings both went the way of the home side. Como 1907 2-0 Sassuolo in November 2025 was a comfortable win with a clean sheet, and Sassuolo 2-1 Como 1907 in April 2026 was the reverse result on Sassuolo’s own ground. That split supports the idea that home advantage has mattered in this fixture, and this one is at Como.

Team news

Team news as of 24 October 2026 (Sky Sport Italia, Tuttosport, with SOS Fanta and Fantacalcio.it used to confirm). Como (Cesc Fàbregas): Fàbregas said Liberali has “a very small problem” and probably won’t play, and that Kean can’t play either. Kean could be back on Tuesday, though Fàbregas would not guarantee it. Sky reports that Kean has not been called up because of a shin problem and that the calf problem Liberali picked up on Wednesday rules him out. Chalobah is also out in defence. Jesús Rodríguez and Assane Diao are also unavailable. No Como players are on a booking warning, and none are suspended. Doubts: in midfield, Perrone and Da Cunha are expected to start, but Ricci could get a chance. Kambwala, who came on late against Fiorentina, could be a surprise starter in defence. With Rodríguez out there is a doubt on the right, and the idea may be to push Yan Couto forward with Smolcic at right back. Expected formation (4-2-3-1): Butez; Smolcic, Ramón, Kempf, Kaiki; Perrone, Da Cunha; Couto, Paz, Baturina; Douvikas. Tuttosport’s updated matchday line-up has the same XI.

Sassuolo (Alberto Aquilani): Aquilani said at his pre-match press conference that nobody is returning, Idzes is still unavailable, and Pieragnolo will play for the Primavera. Daniel Boloca, Ismaël Koné and Fedde Leysen remain unavailable and will not travel to Lombardy. No Sassuolo players are suspended. Doubts: the main one is in goal. Sky says Turati is ahead of Muric, who has struggled lately. Aquilani himself said Muric is having difficulties and his repeated mistakes are affecting both him and the team. In midfield, Bakola and Thorstvedt should line up either side of Matic, but Adzic could still win a starting place. At centre forward, Sky picks Bowie while Tuttosport picks Sebastiano Esposito. At right back, Cinquegrano is favoured over Van der Brempt. Expected formation (4-3-3): Turati; Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Odenthal, Doig; Bakola, Matic, Thorstvedt; Berardi, Esposito, Laurienté. Sky has Bowie in place of Esposito. The official line-ups have not been announced yet.

What decides it

  • Como’s defence against a side that always scores. Sassuolo have found the net in each of their last five matches, so a Como clean sheet is far from guaranteed. But Como concede only once per league game on average, and at home they have kept the Roma attack quiet. Expect Sassuolo to get one, not more.
  • Sassuolo’s away defending. Conceding eight goals across three away games is the weakest part of their profile. Como, who put four past RB Leipzig at home, have the attacking quality to punish that, even if their league scoring rate of nine goals in six games is more measured.
  • Rest and rhythm. Both sides arrive after a break: Como last played on 14 October in Europe, Sassuolo on 16 October. Neither should be short of legs, which removes Como’s European schedule as an excuse and lets the home and away patterns speak.

Verdict

Sassuolo are dangerous enough going forward to score, and their home results against Juventus and Milan show real quality. On the road, though, they have been too open, and Como are a solid, well organised side at home with a game in hand to make use of. We are going with Como 1907 2-1 Sassuolo, with Medium confidence.
