Our prediction
Inter 3-1 Club Brugge. Inter have scored 15 goals in five Serie A games and are at home to a side that conceded three on its own ground in their first league phase match. Brugge should find the net against a defence that has been generous, but Inter’s attack is the biggest single factor here.
Form guide
Inter are second in Serie A and unbeaten after five games: four wins, one draw, 13 points, 15 goals scored and 8 conceded. Their last five results tell a clear story:
- Cagliari 0-1 Inter (Serie A)
- Inter 3-2 Napoli (Serie A)
- Real Madrid 2-1 Inter (Champions League)
- Inter 5-3 Udinese (Serie A)
- Roma 2-2 Inter (Serie A)
The attack is the constant. Inter scored in all five of those matches and managed three or more in both home games. The defence is the weakness. After a clean sheet in Cagliari, they conceded in each of the next four matches, nine goals in total. The one defeat came by a single goal away to Real Madrid, which is no reason for alarm, but it does mean Inter start this match on zero points in the league phase.
Our data has only one result for Club Brugge: Club Brugge 2-3 Aston Villa in the opening round. That is a mixed signal. Scoring twice against Premier League opposition shows they can create chances, but losing at home after conceding three suggests a defence that can be opened up. Travelling to Milan to face an attack averaging three goals a game in Serie A is a harder task than hosting Villa.
Both teams lost on matchday one, so both arrive with no points.
Head-to-head
There are no previous meetings between Inter and Club Brugge in our data. With no history to lean on, this prediction rests entirely on current form, and on that measure Inter are well ahead.
Team news
Team news as of 13 October 2026 (Sky Sport Italia, Gazzetta dello Sport, Tuttosport, Het Nieuwsblad, Krant van West-Vlaanderen). Inter (head coach Cristian Chivu) are missing two players. Absentees: John Stones is out with a strained hamstring in his left thigh, and Curtis Jones is out for about three weeks with a muscle tear in his right thigh. Sky reports that Jones and Stones will not be in the squad and everyone else is available. Doubts: Calhanoglu is fine and only took a small knock, according to Chivu, who said some changes to the side would still be made. The Gazzetta says Aleksandar Stankovic could make his first start in the holding role, against the club where he shone last season, with Calhanoglu rested. On the right flank, Diouf is currently ahead of Luis Henrique, and Spence is also an option. Akanji and Zielinski return to the starting XI, along with Bastoni, Barella and Lautaro Martinez after being rested against Parma. Expected formation (3-5-2): J. Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Dimarco; L. Martinez, Thuram.
Club Brugge (head coach Ivan Leko) have one big fitness doubt. Doubts: Carlos Forbs picked up a muscle injury at La Louvière on Saturday. He flew to Milan and is in the Brugge squad, and Leko called it encouraging. He did part of the training session and had no big reaction afterwards. Even so, being in the squad does not automatically mean he will play, let alone start. If Forbs does not start, Mamadou Diakhon could come in, and Félix Lemarechal (or Hugo Vetlesen) is also an option. In defence, the only real choice is Lee or Spileers alongside Mechele. Absentees: Joel Ordóñez is listed out with a metatarsal fracture, and Hugo Siquet is also reported missing. The main outlets have not confirmed either absence. Expected formation (4-2-3-1): Sommer; Sabbe, Mechele, Lee, Seys; Vetlesen, Potts; Forbs, Vanaken, Virgili; Tresoldi.
What decides it
- Inter’s attack against Brugge’s back line. Inter have scored 15 in five league games, including five against Udinese and three against Napoli at home. Brugge let in three at home to Aston Villa. If that defence performs at the same level away from home, Inter should score at least twice.
- Brugge’s counter against Inter’s defence. Inter conceded five goals in their last two home league games, three to Udinese and two to Napoli. Brugge scored twice against Villa, so they have the means to punish lapses. This is why we expect Brugge to score rather than predicting a clean sheet.
- Both sides need points. With neither team on the board after matchday one, a second defeat would leave either one chasing. For Inter, home advantage and an unbeaten domestic run make this the obvious chance to recover. Brugge may have to open up in search of a result, which plays into Inter’s hands late in the game.
Verdict
Inter’s scoring form at home is too strong for a Brugge side that conceded three in their own stadium last time out. Inter’s defence has given away goals in four straight games, so expect Brugge to score once, but the home side should pull clear. Our call: Inter 3-1 Club Brugge.
