Napoli vs Bodø/Glimt Prediction: Champions League League phase, MD3

Our prediction

Napoli 2-0 Bodø/Glimt. Napoli have been hard to score against at home, and Bodø/Glimt arrive on the back of a 5-0 defeat in Munich. That gap in defensive solidity is the single biggest reason we expect a home win without much drama.

Form guide

Napoli sit eighth in Serie A with 10 points from six games: three wins, one draw and two defeats. Their goal difference of 10 scored and 6 conceded is better than their league position suggests, which points to a side that has been closer to the top group than the table shows.

Their recent run tells a clear story. The low point was a 3-2 defeat away at Inter followed by Napoli 0-1 Arsenal in the Champions League, two narrow losses to strong opponents. Since then they have steadied: Napoli 1-0 Bologna, a 1-1 draw away at Fiorentina in the shape of Fiorentina 1-1 Napoli, and most recently a comfortable Napoli 3-0 Frosinone.

The pattern at the Maradona is the key point. In their last three home games in this run they have conceded just once, and that was to Arsenal. Against sides below the elite level they have kept clean sheets, and the Frosinone result showed they can turn control into goals.

Bodø/Glimt’s only result in our data is a heavy one: Bayern 5-0 Bodø/Glimt. Losing in Munich is no disgrace, but a five-goal margin suggests they struggled to cope when pinned back by a side with quality all over the pitch. We have no information on their domestic form, so this is a thinner read, but the evidence we do have points one way.

Head-to-head

There is no previous meeting between these clubs in our records. This will be a first competitive encounter, so neither side carries any history into the game. The analysis rests on current form and the gap in level between the two squads.

Team news

Team news as of 20 October 2026 (Sky Sport Italia, Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, SSC Napoli official note via Sky Sport, NRK). Napoli: Massimiliano Allegri is still in charge but under heavy pressure. De Laurentiis has confirmed his trust in the coach for now, but the matches against Bodø/Glimt and Roma on Saturday are expected to decide his future. Absentees: Alisson Santos suffered a new injury on his return at Venezia after a month out and will definitely miss everything until the next international break. Allegri said Neres is out again, while Vergara and Favasuli are not close to returning but are recovering well. Buongiorno is also listed as unavailable, and Il Mattino reports he is out of the squad lists, with a return mentioned for January. Anguissa and Olivera are fit again. Doubts: McTominay is the main doubt and also decides the shape: with the Scot it will be 4-2-3-1, without him Napoli will play 4-3-3, and Gilmour is the alternative. According to Gazzetta, Meret is favoured over Milinković-Savić in goal, and the McTominay question will probably only be settled at the final training session. Corriere dello Sport expects De Bruyne and Rafa Marin to return to the starting line-up, and adds that Politano’s place depends on the system: if Allegri goes 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, he will play high on the right. The outlets disagree on the shape. Tuttosport expects a back three: Meret; Rafa Marin, Rrahmani, Badiashile; Di Lorenzo, McTominay, Lobotka, Spinazzola; De Bruyne, Lang; Hojlund. Expected XI (Sky Sport, 4-2-3-1): Meret, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Rafa Marin, Olivera; Lobotka, McTominay; Politano, De Bruyne, Lang; Hojlund. The official line-up has not been announced yet.

Bodø/Glimt: Kjetil Knutsen’s side come in after their 1-0 win over Dortmund, a sixth straight home win in UEFA competition. Doubts: Ole Didrik Blomberg was substituted injured late in the first half against HamKam after a contact in the penalty area. Speaking in Naples, Knutsen said they were very optimistic he would return but would have to test him in training. If he does not make it, Mvuka is ready to step in. Absentees: none confirmed by the main outlets. Some betting previews list Mikkelsen, Evjen and Riisnæs as unavailable, but that has not been verified, and one probable line-up has Evjen on the bench. Selection question: the only doubt is in central defence, where Bjørtuft and Aleesami are competing for one place. Expected XI (Sky Sport and Tuttosport, 4-3-3): Haikin; Sjovold, Gundersen, Aleesami, Bjorkan; Auklend, Berg, Fet; Blomberg, Helmersen, Hauge. The official line-up has not been announced yet.

What decides it

  • Napoli’s home defence against a side that has just been overrun. Napoli have conceded only one goal at home across their last three matches in this run. Bodø/Glimt failed to score in Munich, and unless they find a way to get bodies forward without leaving gaps, chances will be scarce.
  • Bodø/Glimt’s ability to absorb pressure. The 5-0 in Bayern suggests that once the visitors concede, they can lose their shape. If Napoli score early, the match could open up in their favour. If Bodø/Glimt hold out for the first half hour, it becomes tighter.
  • Napoli’s need for European points. After losing at home to Arsenal, Napoli cannot afford to drop points against the less heralded side in their group of opponents. A home match against a team that has just conceded five is the clearest chance they will get to put that right, and their recent consistency suggests they will treat it seriously.

The risk for Napoli is the narrowness of some of their results. Wins of 1-0 and draws of 1-1 show a side that does not always put games away, so a slow start could make the evening nervier than it should be. Still, their defensive record gives them a solid floor.

Verdict

Napoli are steadier at the back, they are at home, and Bodø/Glimt’s last European outing exposed real problems against strong opposition. We expect Napoli to control the match, score once in each half and keep another home clean sheet. Our call: Napoli 2-0 Bodø/Glimt.
